Ways To Elevate Your Home

Cleaning and Organizing Hacks that I swear By

Keeping your home in tip-top shape is a job that's never truly finished. These are my favourite tricks that never fail to make my place shine.

Bedroom & Living Room

Scented sachets

I learned this trick from my grandma and ever since I have loved making my own lavender-scented sachets and gifting them to friends and family. Giving credit to the sweetest woman in the world, these sachets that I keep in my closet remind me of her every day. In case you don’t know certain herbs, such as lavender, tansy, and wormwood, not only are sweet smelling but also have moth-repellent properties. On the plus side, it’s super practical to make these lovely sachets. You just need to combine these herbs in a sachet to put in closets or drawers.

The only materials you need are the following:

  1. Charm Pack 5-inch fabric squares

  2. Sewing kit

  3. Moth-repelling lavender buds

To start, sew two squares together, leaving a 1-inch opening on one side and a 1/2-inch seam allowance.

Fill with moth-repelling lavender buds and finish sewing the last side.

And voila place it in a drawer to keep linens fresh or under a pillow for sweet dreams.

Essential oil Spray

Essential oils are like the pocketknife of wellness tools helping with everything from stress and anxiety, to PMS, and serving as a non-toxic cleaning product.

Let me tell you how easy it is to make your own essential oil spray. When making an essential oil spray, the first step is to decide what is the spray for: I make mine solely for room and fabric freshener, but you may want to make yours to improve your sleep, relieve depression, or as an insect repellent. The next step is to make sure the scents you choose work for you. To make the spray, merely mix your essential oils with purified water. The strength of the mixture is totally up to you. Depending on the size of your bottle, play with the number of drops of each essential oil and how much water you add.

Some of the scents that I like to keep in hand are:

  • Rosemary oil: It has benefits like reducing pain and stress, and lifting your mood.

  • Lavender oil: The OG best essential oil for relaxation, lavender can help people sleep better.

  • Sandalwood oil: For a mood boost, it helps sharpen your focus too.

  • Jasmine oil: For feeling more positive and upbeat.

  • Clary sage oil: To reduce blood pressure.

Kitchen Must-Haves

I spend a LOT of time in the kitchen. So I'm always looking for ways to keep it as organized and self-sufficient as possible. Here are a few of my favourite tips and tricks.

Storage Containers

If you don’t have it already get yourself some storage containers. Besides making me feel calm and happy when I open the pantry, storing everything in clear, airtight bins keep it fresher longer and make it easy to keep it all organized.

Muslin bags

I hate wasting food, and I've found that storing produce in muslin bags makes it last longer.

The magic mixture to deep clean your fridge

I find that washing the interior with a solution of two tablespoons of baking soda for every quart of warm water works best. Plus you can wash removable shelves and drawers in the same solution. To loosen hardened spills on areas that you can't remove, first wet the area using the baking soda solution, and allow the residue to soften.
